Today the Internet has become an essential part of everyone’s day to day life. The number of Internet users has significantly increased all over the world over the past few years. The people across the globe, from teenagers to the old, all are addicted to it.
The massive use of the Internet in almost every field of our life has given birth to some sorts of criminal activities, popularly known as cybercrime.
Most of the Internet users are unaware of the activities what is going on the back door of the Internet.
What is Cyber Crime
Cybercrime is referred to as a crime that involves computer devices and computer networks. It includes criminal activities using network systems such as the Internet and electronic communication devices like mobile phones, laptops, personal computers, network servers, routers, network switches, etc. The sole motive of cybercrime is to cause harm to individuals, organizations, or businesses.
The cybercrime activities include unauthorized access to someone’s computer system, theft of intellectual properties, stealing information, credit card fraud, dissemination of the virus, etc.
The person who commits such crime using the computer networks and the devices associated with it is known as cyber-criminal.
Categories of Cyber crime
There are three different categories of cybercrimes involved which may target specific individuals or organizations. Hence it is broadly classified into three categories as follows:
- Crime against person
- Crime against property
- Crime against organization
Crime against person
Cybercrime intended to harm a specific person or individual comes under the category of crime against a person. Such types of crimes include hacking individual systems, cyber stalking, etc.
Crime against property
The crime which includes damage or theft of all forms of property is categorized under cyber crime against property. The prominent examples of crime against property are unauthorized access to an individual’s bank account, credit card fraud, phishing scam, etc.
Crime against Organization
This type of crime target an organization, country, political party, etc. Cyber terrorism is a distinct example of crime against the government. Such crime includes hacking military or government websites, spreading propaganda or terrorizing the citizens of any country, etc.
